So I saw this movie the other night, expecting a fairly typical war movie, and...wow. I walked out exhausted. It throws so many emotions at you, so fast... Anyway, I'm curious to here your impressions of it.

Yeah. The "That's my ****ing WIFE" part made me want to punch things. Anyone that is that cold hearted has a special spot in hell waiting for them.

  4. I did the same thing- walked in expecting crazy military action in the style of Full Metal Jacket, and I must admit I was really pleasantly surprised by the tone the movie took. You rarely see a way movie focus on how screwed a soldiers personal life can become, their significant others, how much they masturbate due to boredom...

Having seen Sam Mendes's other two feature films I am not at all expecting an action-packed war movie.

I haven't seen it, I want to. The more I hear about it the more intrigued I am.

Having read Swofford's book a couple years back, I was psyched to see the movie. Both my husband and I really enjoyed it. I didn't reallize Jake Gyllenhall (sp?) is such a good actor. I thought Peter Saarsgaard (sp.) was excellent, too. Jamey Foxx was his usual excellent self, but he didn't get enough screen time.

The scenes with the troops slogging along in the oil-soaked desert while oil wells burned in the background were amazing.

The book really goes into much deeper detail about the personal lives and agonies of the marines, but the movie actually does a pretty good job of showing that enough for the viewer to get the idea that often a marine or soldier's worst battle is his own personal life.

This movie was very good, but there have been some others this year that are tough competitors, plus some coming up soon. The next six or eight weeks are going to find me at the movie theater way too often.

  9. I went to see it the friday it came out but my brothers stumach and 3 hours of drinking hard liquer said differently 3rd preview and it all came out, got on a few people and we were kindly escorted out of the theater by armed security. it was like having a 6'5" 300 3 year old.

  11. I just saw it tonight and it was great. I thought it did have a Full Metal Jacket vibe to it in that the movie focuses on what happens to the soldiers. I would definately recommend it to anyone interested.
