    hey guys,
im doing a big essay on how money affects music production (art). i want to look at how record labels control what their bands sound like in order to make more money. i was wondering if anyone knows any websites or sources where i can learn more about this. any information will be greatly appreciated. thanks

A fascinating online diary about a real band recording a real album:

    http://www.prosoundweb.com/recording/mm/week1/mm.php

Some books you might be able to find at your library:

"The Mansion On The Hill" by Fred Goodman

"Hit Men: Power Brokers & Fast Money Inside the Music Business"
    by Fredric Dannen

Also, almost ANY biography of major pop/rock stars will cover this to some extent.
