So, one of my closer friends right now is also a bass player. This is only partly related to us being good friends. Anyway, we are very different types of players. He is nowhere near the type of effect head that I am, he has three Boss compact pedals that he almost never uses anymore (ODB-3, DD-7, TU-3; he does use the tuner if he doesn't have a different option). Anyway, he just won a Pigtronix Infinity Looper through a Facebook giveaway! He had tagged me earlier to give me a chance to enter the giveaway, it's ongoing with many more prizes but closed, and it sounds like there aren't that many entrants so the chances of winning something pretty nice are surprisingly high. Anyway, I'm so upset I didn't try to cash in earlier. I'm also admittedly a little jealous of him because while he might end up using the looper, it's not really up his alley. I would love to give this thing a spin and in the worst case flip it for something else...
I would have loved to have won it and then tried it out before deciding whether to flip it. I would love to be in his shoes and have the opportunity to try it out before deciding whether to flip it. I would love for him to just give it to me so I could decide whether to keep it or flip it. But no, nothing underhanded or nefarious from me here.
Yeah, I'd love to be able to be king of the world, too, but it's not in the cards. Be happy with your life as it is, or you will be miserable with your life as it is.
Let me see if I can summarize: You are jealous because your friend won a pedal that you feel you have more use for than he has, and you kick yourself for not entering the giveaway. What was the point that I missed?
I think it's called Gold Rush 2013 on Facebook, but I think it's closed for new entries. (And unfortunately named, since there are like 20 games called Gold Rush on Facebook.)
You pretty much nailed it. I said "some of you" misunderstood. You're not one of the people who interpreted my post as asking for life advice. I would like to add just a little more context that maybe I should have from the beginning. Even though he has those few effects pedals and doesn't mind my use of effects, we have occasionally had light-hearted arguments about the use of effects. He borders on one of those "all of my tone is in my fingers" types. If we each had $450 to spend on gear (the value of the pedal) he would absolutely upgrade his bass or amp, while I would look first to effects. So there's a touch of irony (if you consider that ironic).
*Sigh* I really don't have anything to get over. It's just a "one that got away" story (of sorts---I realize there's no guarantee I would have won anything, nor do I begrudge my friend, I hope he has fun with it). I'm really regretting this thread right now because obviously I'm coming off like an ungrateful whiner when that definitely wasn't my intent, nor do I think it's applicable. I'm thisclose to closing the thread.
Have you said "hey if you end up not using that pedal that much let me know I'd gladly give you $X for it." I did. He said I'm on the top of the list. Just kidding.
