Funny thing - I do not need them to be particularly long, since i am using a headless system and there are not really windings. But I wonder what sort of gauges would be good for the tension? I want to keep it in E standard and prefer medium amount of tension (45-100 on a 34 inch scale instrument for example).

And of course I am talking roundwounds.

Looking at a tension calculator, 34"->36" requires a drop of gauge of .005 to keep a similar tension.
So reduce the lowest 1, 2 or 3 strings by .005.
Many brands have a 'super-long' length that will do 36", search for the winding length data to check.

Alright, thanks, what calculator are you using, though? Might find it handy.
