Ive been playing with my guitar friend for about 13 years and we've been in a couple different bands together over the years and we like playing covers and do lots of private parties and weddings.

The problem we have is we hate our song list. I need some new stuff. What are you guys playing that's newer than say, oh, 2001?

We're a classic rock cover band in the Seattle area and when I go see other bands around here we all play the same songs. I am dead tired of Tom Petty, Pat Benatar, Journey, BTO, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc.

What do you guys have in your setlists that are 1)fun to play 2)not too deep-track-obscure and 3) the crowd loves and gets the chicks dancing?

We can play pretty much whatever we want, guitar, bass, drums, female vocallist that specializes in AD/DC, Janis Joplin, Pet Benatar.

I need some help here. I'm tired of phoning it in for 30 nights a year.

With a female singer.....explore some 80s rock/ power ballads. We play some Poison and Motley Crue and it kills. Check out some Ratt, or Twisted Sister. Reo Speedwagon, Toto, Loverboy, Huey Lewis.......etc. take advantage of what I assume is an upper register voice and do songs you hear on the radio that no one else CAN do.

Before He Cheats - Carrie Underwood
Need You Now - Lady Antebellum
Game of Love - Santana (female singer)

Yes, the line between rock and country is blurred, but it goes over well, and can be fun to play.

Stronger, Walk Away - Kelly Clarkson

    Currently in our song list:
    Talk Dirty to Me
    Every Rose Has It's Thorns
    Unskinny Bop
    Looks That Kill
    Home Sweet Home
    You're in Love
    Lay It Down
    We're Not Gonna Take It
    I Wanna Rock
    Working for the Weekend
    I Want a New Drug
    The Power of Love

So we've got those down. We're all pretty tired of those Poison songs to be sure.

Bruno Mars. Just about any of his hits - they tend to be in the female range, and the bass parts are ffffff awesome.

Pick songs from different genres and play them like rock tunes. Like...

a Demi Lavato song (Give Your Heart a Break?)
a Hall & Oates song (Maneater?)
a Depeche Mode song (Personal Jesus?)

We play that one now. People love it. Are there any other Bruno Mars tunes people would love? We've been playing Locked Out for 4-5 years now.
  16. Uptown Funk would be another obvious choice IMO. Learned it for a one off group we put together with some guys I used to play with to do a party last summer. Really fun and somewhat challenging bass line.
  17. Are there any Bruno Mars songs that people won’t love.??

We like to think our set list is kind of modern, realised that our modern songs are all close to 10 years old.

Added Cake By The Ocean recently but can’t seem to gel with it, feels forced and stale compared to the upbeat fun of the recording. Not sure what we’re doing wrong. People dance, but aren’t really into it.

What about the new Ariana Grande & the overweight rapper girl song?…..has a reggae vibe to it. I’ll have to google and come back
  18. Niki Minaj, I was going to say Lil Kim....

New than 2001? Here's a bunch of rock-ish stuff in our repetoire from that era.

    Ain't It Fun - Paramore
All These Things That I've Done - The Killer
    The Anthem - Good Charlotte
Cake By The Ocean - DNCE
Chicken Fried - Zac Brown Band
    Closer - Chainsmokers ft. Halsey
Country Girl (Shake It For Me) - Luke Bryan
    Crazy ***** - Buckcherry
Harder To Breathe - Maroon 5
The Middle - Jimmy Eat World
My Body - Young The Giant
    Ride - Twenty One Pilots
Safe & Sound - Capital Cities
Shut Up And Dance - Walk The Moon
Sugar We're Going Down - Fall Out Boy
Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand
    This Love - Maroon 5
    Wagon Wheel - Darius Rucker

If I had to pick a few that always gets the crowd interacting and girls dancing...

    Crazy *****
    Sugar We're Going Down
    Shut Up And Dance
    Chicken Fried

Bruno always goes over well. Locked Out of Heaven, Treasure, Uptown Funk, 24k Magic

Are you using samples/backing tracks? There's a lot in that song and it feels empty without them.
