I recently got a used 1995 peavey foundation 5-string bass in a trade. The setup on the bass is perfect but the pickups seem too close to the bottom of the strings. The output seems twice as loud on the B and E strings than on the D and G. Which is great when I am playing something with heavy bass in it, but bad when I go back and forth between the lower and upper notes. Is this typical?

Does anyone out there know what the factory specs might have been?

Is it possible that the pickups could have originally been meant to be positioned closer on the treble (D,G,) and further away on the bass (B,E,)side?
