    Hi,
I am a newbe and being far more mechanical than musical I am trying to learn to do my own setup. The Fender owners manual says to set the string height to 3/23 in. from the top of the 17 fret to the bottom of the string. This seems a bit close, althought I don't seem to have any fret buzz, BUT I am just a biginner and am not hitting it hard as yet. I checked the local music store today and most of the bases seemed to be set higher. So my question is 3/32 about the right height?

    Thanks

Set it as low/high as you prefer

Seriously, its a matter of preference, and I like mine as low as it can get, except I have to keep mine slightly higher than I'd like because the string would be hitting th epickup otherwise (and if i lowered the pickup there wouldnt be any room for my thumb)

So yeah...and the ones at like guitar center are usually butchered beyond how they should be...

Be sure to check the neck relief first. Every new Fender I have seen lately has had way too much relief in it right out of the factory . . . . and if the neck is wrong, your string height settings will be useless.

Thanks guys...I have checked the neck relief and its set per the manual. I was just wondering if the 3/32 was about right for those of you that have been playing a while unlike me. Like I said it is lower that all the others I saw at the store but seems to work OK for now.

The ideal is to play with a light touch.
