    Hey,
I'm going to be getting a fretless neck for my Jazz Bass soon and I was wondering.....do you have to set the intonation on a fretless like you do with a fretted bass?? Or not??????
    Thanks

    Hi IJ,
Same way, in fact, even more important on a fretless, IMO.

yes you do. Intonation on a fretless is how close to the fret line you have to put your finger to it to make the note sound at the correct pitch.

    Shouldnt this be in setup?

What if you don't have lines?

Yeah, and this neck doesn't have lines on it...just dots on the side where the frets would be on a fretted..

You do need to set up the intonation, but remember to play with your ears and not your eyes.

Just because you fret where the 5th fret would be doesn't necessarily mean that the A(on the E string) will be in tune.

Your eyes will fool you every time.
