I'd like to have a bass in tenor tuning. (Just got the Vic Wooten book and I want to try "More Love.)

Rather than just taking my main bass and tuning up to the tenor tuning, do I need to have it set up for this? In other words, am I going to damage the neck by doing this?

    Thanks!

You'll want to get some suitable strings on there - if you take a standard four string set and tweak them up to ADGC, they're likely to snap and will certainly be under far too much tension to pull off many Wooten tricks! Look at the gauges used by the top four strings of a six string set to get an idea of what to aim for.
