setup on a 5 string tuned down a whole step?

Discussion in 'Hardware, Setup & Repair [BG]' started by sleestak, Apr 18, 2005.

  1. Should a bass be intonated or otherwise set up if you play tuned down a whole step?

I have a Stingray5 and this band I just hooked up with plays down low. I have never played detuned like that, and wondered if the bass needs to be setup with this in mind?

It depends on the bass too. Some basses are pretty tolerant, others can't stand to be even a hair off pitch. My ESP can go to A pretty easily, my warwick would go to sh*t if I dropped one string even a semitone.

That said I always redo at least my truss rod and saddle height, and check intonation whenever I switch tunings, I'm kinda picky about my setups.
