I am listening to a show on TV today and the show is talking about sex trafficking. I am no prude and I understand that some like porn. My concern is how can we know actresses haven't been forced into erotic work?

Don't look at random videos, but instead look at reputable companies. Pay for what your seeing.

You run into bad things when your using those free tubes and amature sights.

Stick to pay sites and movies with strong production. If it looks grainy and questionable, it probably is.

That makes sense. Still, even "reputable" porn is a little creepy, IMO.

What do you mean by "forced,' exactly? Gun to their head? Getting beaten up by pimps or something if they don't comply? I have my doubts about how common that really is, but I haven't seen the report you're talking about.

I remember an NPR report on brothels in Nevada (a study on STDs in that environment), and one of the points that was made was that virtually all of the employees had some sort of dependent - a kid, a disabled parent, at least a deadbeat boyfriend - whom they were supporting. That report didn't imply that they were "forced" into it in any strict sense, but rather that it was a choice, albeit one made out of desperation when they could find no other way to make an income. Of course, there it's legal, and therefore regulated, and uglier situations may prevail in other areas. Usually when I hear about forced sex trafficking it's third world situations.

I don't know...a lot of those girls end up on Howard Stern and they don't sound like they're being forced into any of it. Some girls just like having sex on camera in front a lot of people.

I know a whole lot girls enjoy it and enjoy the money. I just think it can be hard to know who is in for the money and who has been caught up.

Yeah, well you can't save the world, bro. If I were you I'd either not watch porn or don't think that hard when you do ;)

I would be more worried about the people in the garment industry then the porn.
    Don't confuse porn with prostitution

I think what the OP is talking about are the poor girls brought over from other countries, like Armenian women that are forced and held captive in a sleazy whore house with their family's life threatened if they try to escape. Same goes for all the other nationalities! I dont think he is talking about some american girl strung out on dope or with daddy issues!

We can't .. and we don't. People are very adaptable.. and whatever write up you read on a porn sight is suspect.. You might see the same model with multiple names and multiple bios.. but some are in the business willingly and they actually love their work.. Some are in it for the money.. some are in it for the money and the sex.. You would be surprised at how savvy some of these ladies are.. with stock portfolios and the whole 9. Some of them have a long term plan that does not involve being in the sex industry longer than 10 years ... Some of these women were initially forced into the business.. but then decide to go along to get along.. A lot of the real sex trafficking victims are not being filmed... they are direct to market so to speak.. You pay you play.. and they get sent back to their cage.. and you go home deceiving yourself. Many of the girls on film especially with reputable companies are in it because they want to be and there is no shortage these days of young good looking women willing to do whatever in front of a camera for a one or two day payday that might under normal 9-5 circumstances take 6 months or more.

this is a big and difficult subject. google 'human trafficking' and you find a lot of info you may or may not wanna know about.

sex trafficking is a part of human trafficking which is defined as any kind of forced labor. there are millions of victims (mostly women) and billions of dollars involved in the industry.

it goes way beyond prostitution and porn, but they are in there too. to stay on topic, certainly not all women involved with porn & prostitution are forced. i think a 'typical' story inside the usa would be a teen runaway ending up in a city, getting coerced by men in the business. they start out stripping but it can move on to prostitution or porn. often the women are coerced into drug addiction cause that helps keep them enslaved. they get 'paid' for their work but they seem to always owe more in room & board than they get paid creating a debt cycle. isolation really helps keep the women from running away. they think they are all alone and they are taught that being picked up by the cops will be terrible for them or going back to their families would be bad too. there is a lot of money to be made off humans so the guys doing this are usually part of organized crime groups. they will also threaten the woman with hunting down and killing their families if they don't go along.

    it is nothing but ugly.

on the other hand, we do all like our porn and strip clubs. porn is about fantasy. i certainly don't think about the health and well being of the women when watching a clip. and i don't think you can ever really 'know' what got them or keeps them in the business. i don't know, but i think sex trafficking is more about stripping and prostitution than porn.

it may not be all that satisfying to say, but in general a lot of industries have their ugly side. oil, meat, sex, drugs, and war come to my mind first. when horrible things come out or accidents happen, i have to remind myself that that is a part of those industries. how one chooses to handle the inconvenient realities is their choice. do you really wanna think about who made your shoes? odds are they were made in a forced labor environment.

i think it is very hopeful and positive, however, that human trafficking is starting to get a LOT of attention. it seems to be becoming the latest cause and it couldn't come sooner. it's a huge, twisted mess. do a search.

The lead guitarist of Stryper, Oz Fox, his wife Annie Lobert used to be involved in sex trafficking. She now has a ministry called Hookers for Jesus where she tries to reach out to women involved in prostitution and pornography. She would be a great one to talk with on this subject as she has first hand knowledge of everything that goes on. I have spoken with her a little bit about it in the past and the things she has shared is really heart breaking to hear what happens to many of these women.
