"Nice ash!!" Considering refinishing my Blurburst bass to something different and finding that unless you have a quilt top it's really tough to spice up an ash body. Post your votes for a hot new, ash finish!
Transparent White Burst is THE Sexiest LOL! Its an Ash core with Cedar wings custom Made by Marco (Cortez) Basses
Will ash take dyes pretty well? Considering a light blue dyed ash P bass body for one of my projects.
I've got an 04 Jazz with their "translucent sunset orange" finish over ash and it is heavenly. There's a pic of another person's on a previous thread if you want to see. Ash has a darker line to it, which really snaps out of the orange. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/fender-jazz-bass-club-pt-4-a-808186/index9.html
The answer won't be the same for everyone, of course. That Fender transparent teal is sweet, but my new favorite is Sheldon Dingwall's vision of what a sunset looks like through a glass of cola to him. Colaburst:
Any kind of Tobacco oil finish is bonerworthy to me. I've always liked it since the first time I saw a bass that had it.
I have trans white on my ash bass and it looks killer. Catches the light really well and the color is real unique with the wood showing through.
Ash takes a dye pretty well. Just finished this one with a red dye and black grain filler with lacquer clear coat.
This was my first attempt. I like the way it turned out. You can feel the wood grain through the finish. The flash exaggerates the effect. It's actually more black than that photo shows.
Not the greatest pic, but here's my Jazz with transparent ebony finish. My 3 yr old helping to change strings on it:
