That doesn't look like birdseye. Looks more like big dents and stuff. I would it's a problem with the camera and it's actually birdseye but it's ebay so I'm inclined to think that it's just full of dents.

Those are mineral stains and you can clearly see the body joints.

EBMM would NEVER have let that out of the factory.

It's a refin and it used to be opaque.

Maybe they should have painted it white and stamped "Titleist" on it! :D

That's funny. You know, there WAS a color SIMILAR to this at the time--but I think it was a bit more of a burst. Basspalace had two for a while. I agree that is almost definitely a refin. What does the seller say?

I'd guess it's stock. I had a trans blue 87 Sabre that looked like that. The original color is usually stamped in the neck pocket or pickup route. The bumps look like figuring in the wood and the wood looks like poplar, which EB used back then.

Yeah, I had a blue burst about the same era that was also a poplar body and a less than pretty wood grain. I had a Natural 85 that was pretty similar. The body did not even look like it was made out of the same kind of wood.

I had a Stingray, think it was a 92-ish, I bought new It was Almost this color, Translucent teal (not burst). I swear it was a touch darker, and definitely didn't have this much "character" in the grain.

Yeah. I am familiar with trans teal, and I definitely don't think this is that. Somebody may have been "shooting for" trans teal, but I stand by my assessment that this is not factory finished.

The fact that the nut is not original only reinforces my suspicion that other things may have tweaked, too.

Besides the color, I like the bass, it has "personality". Later Joe

The body joints give it away. Who has ever seen a Stingray with such obvious joints?

Not a factory finished Stingray, anyway.
