Year end "best of" lists are usually a way for media outlets to give one last kudos to some of their favorite releases of the year. I like them because I can find music that may have flown under my radar. The Talkbass crowd is a diverse bunch that always has interesting things to say about music. Here is your chance to share some of your favorite music releases of 2018.
Here are my favorite albums that were released in 2018: Khemmis - Desolation Desolation, by Khemmis Rivers of Nihil- Where Owls Know My Name Sleep- The Sciences Spaceslug- Eye the Tide
The Body - I Have Fought Against It But I Can’t Any Longer {} Is it doom, ambient, electronica, goth? Don’t know. Well worth a listen if you’re interested in the weirder corners of modern metal.
I didn't buy a lot of new music this year – not that there wasn't a ton of stuff released, but I don't do MP3s/downloads/streaming/etc., so I tend to be pretty selective about what I purchase. These three CDs are the standouts among my 2018 acquisitions, all sharing a common theme. The Weight Band is comprised of musicians who have a connection to either The Band or its past members. Amy Helm is a fabulous musician in her own right who also happens to be the daughter of the late Levon Helm. Byron Isaacs is another very talented musician who has performed with Levon Helm, Amy Helm, Ollabelle, The Lumineers, and Lost Leaders. {} The Weight Band – World Gone Mad (2018) {} Amy Helm – This Too Shall Light (2018) {} Byron Isaacs – Disappearing Man (2018)
2018 was not a particularly fruitful year for me, and I try to listen to something new every week. Strongest Releases for me: Coheed and Cambria - The Unheavenly Creatures Father John Misty - God's Favorite Customer Yuno - Moodie Honorable Mention: White Denim - Performance And I'll probably catch hell for this one: Post Malone - Beerbongs and Bentley
I find out about this band by reading other people's top releases. I'm really digging it. Wonderful playing.
