(Earlier, I posted this in "Hardware, Setup & Repair", but I think it might be better here.)

I have a 1981 G&L L2000E. Unlike the current L2000s, which have a series/parallel switch, these original ones have a humbucker/single coil with bass boost switch.

Mine hums when in single coil mode, just like a Jazz Bass which has one volume knob at less than 100%.

My question: would a maniacal shielding job reduce/eliminate the hum, or is it there to stay, like with a Jazz Bass?

Needless to say, the "single coil with bass boost" mode (with neck pickup only, in passive mode) is my favorite setting on this bass. There's always something... always something... :rollno:
