Short scale SX's, are they lighter?

    Hey guys,

So I'm trying to find a good bass for my cousin (90 lb female) who is joining a band and I'm thinking an SX would be a good bass for her since she has hardly any money and I love mine and I can set it up and all that for her. Right now she's using a vintage Teisco that my uncle used in my dad's band in the 70's, but it's not in the best of shape. It's really short scale also as it's pretty much the same size as a normal guitar. A short scale instrument might be better for her in that respect also since she's already used to using a smaller than normal bass.

My main question is, are the short scale SX basses any lighter than the normal ones? I would assume they are since they're smaller, but the site says 8.5 lbs and that's heavier than my P/J is!

Not to mention my normal sized bass looks HUGE on her. It's pretty funny actually.
