The SX short scale bass I bought for my kids has a small / scaled down body. Not just a different neck. I suspect that this is the case with all short scales, but I only have experience with the Essex.

With the exception of some short scales that have fewer frets, but they have a full chromatic scale for at least 2 1/2 octaves

My son has a short scale, and I rather enjoy playing it. A little less stretching to get from fret to fret, but generally a nice change.

Do you have really small hands? Is the look of the bass what is appealing you?
