Should I cover a decal with a protecting layer of clear varnish?

I applied a decal to my 5 string Ibanez GSRM25 Mikro bass, among other visual mods, and I am wondering if I ought to cover it with a protecting layer of clear varnish, or you think it would be fine to just leave it as it is without increasing the risk of it cracking, rubbing or wearing off.

It's the lotus flower with the OM sign inside I am talking about (it does sit on kind of an exposed spot, since it is just about where your lower arm rubs against it when picking):

If you want it to last you definitely need to cover it with clearcoat.
