A few days ago I ordered an SX 4-string bass http://www.rondomusic.net/bg180tm.html

and now it's already in progress of getting here.

But, I wanted a 5 string one, I just didn't know that rondomusic.net has them.

Is it worth it to return this one and get the 5 string one? This will be my first bass ever, by the way. Also, does a P/J bass sound different than a J/J bass (by much)? I'll be using a crappy combo practice amp...

  4. if you want the other one, then http://www.rondomusic.net/returns.html

yes a pj sounds different than a JJ...how different, consider the sound of a j pickup and then consider the sound of a p pickup...thats how different they are...

There is no 'better,' its a user preference. both have the j in the bridge position will give you that midrangey bark, but the p pickup in the neck position might give you a more round sound. Really, you need to go to the music store, play a p bass and then play a jazz bass and see what you like.

As far as whether its worth it for a fiver, thats an age old battle. I play a 5, and I can't say I always use the low b string, but when I need it, its there.

Your ear is really the best judge.
