    So here is my problem...
I recently picked up a 1978 p-bass and at some point in it's life the pickups were replaced with random no name pickups.
    So my options are:
Buy year correct 78 fender pickups or new high end replacements and if so, what do you recomend?

Let me know what you think!
    Thanks.

Depends entirely on your particular priorities...

In my personal opinion, there's nothing sacred about using original-era parts on the instrument - unless your intent is to build a collection and/or sell it, instead of play it.

If it's a player rather than a collector's item, then install whatever pickups you feel give you the tone you want...and maybe the look you want, if you're also into the aesthetic dimension of it.

There's no "shoulds" or "oughts" here. Sort out your own priorities, then act accordingly. Period.

  3. I think that your 1978 bass is not worth keeping "vintage" and that you should spend your extra time and money on a new 2008 American Standard P-bass...because these absolutely RAWK!

Seriously, though....put in a pickup that you like and play the snot out of it....
