Ok, I have been talked back from the edge where I wondered what it would be like to sand down the frets of a cheap project bass to make a fretless bass... Now, my next question: how about if I START with a cheap project fretless bass? Which would you suggest? Rogue makes a p/j model with no fret guidelines for $120 delivered. SX makes a few, ranging from p model with no guidelines for about $130 delivered to a j model with 2 pickups and guidelines for about $150 delivered. FYI, I have a fretted bass I like, an old Epi Power Bass with SD Quarter Pound pups I installed myself, so obviously I'm just looking for a bass to feed my hobby demons with. Thanks for the help! Walt
Can only speak to the SX. I had a J with lacquered, lined neck. It was a nice playing and nice sounding bass. The only fear I'd have in ordering a low end fretless off the net would be dead spots in the neck. I purchased mine from a TBer, so he already had knowledge of the neck, therefore I felt comfortable.
