Im currently in the process of getting one of my basses fully customised and i now have to consider what pickup configuration i want. The bass has a p-j configuration now but i dont really like it. I was wanting to switch it to soapbars but should i get one or two?? I was thinking of getting a Bartolini X-4 and a Bartolini M-3.
I hate the way that two pickups cause frequency cancellations but i would like two pickups! What should i do????

Depends on how much are a "purist" or how much do you process your instrument!
If I were you,I'd stay on a single pick-up,BUT I'll search for my "sweet point" (I mean, the best-sounding position on the body).

Get two soapbar humbuckers with full switchability, internaly and between the two. I.e serial/parallel/front coil/rear coil, and serial/parallel/neck pup/bridge pup.
Then you can choose how much freq cancel you can live with for each situation.
  4. Switching similar to that on the Music Man Silhouette Bass Guitar is best IMO
