Should I replace the vintage Jazz PU?

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by Jure the second, Apr 6, 2003.

  1. I have a '78 jazz bass (all original). What are the advantages and disadvantages of replacing the pickups on this kind of bass?

    Thanks.

    bump?

also which pickups (bridge) can take more advantage of a fender 70s jazz bass mid`s ?

  3. Yours is almost 30 years old... changing out the pickups will surely make it "no longer original" and may decrease the value.

Be sure to save ALL the original pickups, mounting, etc, etc for later restoration.

If you go for different pickups, it will sound different. Is it broken and needing repair, or are you just in a mood to tinker? Not ragging you, just asking an honest question that should be faced. If not broken, why fix it? Especially considering the age of it.
