I have a Fender Rumble 500, when I practice at home I obviously don't use all the potential of the amp, but I'm thinking about getting Fender Rumble 210 V3, so I can stack it up, and that I have the full potential when performing. (Keep in mind: Migh not turn it up all the way, but it doesn't hurt to have the extra power, that's just my thought.) Should I go ahead and get the extension cab?
so the 2x10 combo, plus the 2x10 extension cab? not just yes but hell yes the full stack will sound better in every way, even at low volume
Yeah even though I might never use it at it's full potential but I love the idea, Plus I like the looks of the stack. Most definitely will go for it.
Yes. Whenever you can, you should. Even with the volume down to the same level, you'll be very found of the new found fullness.
Yes, you definitely should. The Rumble 500 and 210 extension cab is the optimum Rumble configuration, IMHO. It will give you great tone, all the power you’re ever likely to need, and the coveted vertical cabinet coupling effect thrown in. Rumble on!
Even at well below full power, there is an effortless authority that comes from running that many drivers. You will love it!
Would you please explain vertical cabinet coupling effect. Thanks. I can see how more speakers and more surface area is better. It only makes sense.
When you stack identical cabinets, you get increased low end. It’s apparently partly to do with the larger cone area, and partly to do with the vertical stacking.
Great thanks. I thought so but don't fully understand power etc. If the 500 is 350w at 8 ohm and 210 is 350w at 8 ohm what is it that limits the combined output to 500w and is the power split equally between the two?
The power output of the 500 amplifier is 350w into an 8 ohm load and 500w into a 4 ohm load. The unpowered 210 cabinet has a power handling capacity of 350w, and it presents an 8 ohm load. Using the 210 unpowered cab with the 500 amp presents a combined 4 ohm load to the amplifier. The 210 internal to the amp sees 250w, and the 210 extension cab sees 250w. Of course, actual music that results from playing an electric bass never produces fixed signals of constant wattages of 250w, 350w, or 500w.
Always keep in mind that a 350w 8 ohm amp really means the amp in normal operation can output complex dynamic power across a range from 0.001w to 350w into an 8 ohm load. Also, a 350w 8 ohm cabinet in normal operation can handle complex dynamic power across a range from 0.001w to 350w. Music is always a complex dynamic waveform. 4'33" was the emperor's new clothes and not really music.
