Over the years I've worked off and on with Dan Lakin, both at Lakland basses and when he began his venture into D. LAKIN basses, both the first import series, then his most recent all American made basses in partnership with Dan Strack. I'm the proud owner of serial number 1....just wanted to show her off... 20220113_133910.jpg

Yes, indeed it's a jazz neck. It's based off the Lakland Duck Dunn model, but has abalone inlays and a very vintage sounding Lindy Fralin pickup. Is black nitro sprayed with a nitro base, and the finish is sinking into the grain much like early Fenders did before they used Fullerplast. Has full sized Hipshot reverse tuners, vintage small frets. Weighs 8.25 pounds.

Lynn Ellsworth is making a bass for me that will be the only Rickenbacker-style bass (or guitar, for that matter) that he has ever made. He tells me the serial number is going to be "1 of 1" which I think is pretty cool.

Dans a great guy. I've owned NUMEROUS Dan-era Laklands.
    I bought several from him.
Seems like he comes and goes.

Not sure why Dan Lakin seems to be in and out of business time and again. The D Lakin lines looked really cool. I dealt with him a little when the ‘new’ Lakland electronics were launched. I also visited the shop around the same time. He must have been in a bad mood or something because he seemed annoyed at me. Oh well. Still love my Laklands (all 4 of them), always will.
