Guys - I want to change the PG on my Highway one jazz. It's black, with a white guard. I'm thinking tort, or red tort (which I can't find anywhere). I've also heard mint green before, but haven't seen one personally.

Can you guys throw up some pics and recommendations for the black jazz (or P's if you have 'em). Also - would you recommend after markets or genuine Fender.

Go nuts with the pics please.
  2. Cant beat black on black if its a maple fretboard.

Sorry - rosewood board. I forgot to mention.
  4. In that case Tort, not red tort. Just old fashioned tort. If you want to go another direction something like black pearl would look sexy. Something else that would look quite nice is a clear pickguard.

A gold pickguard would look rather dashing, as would black/white/black. I can't recommend tort of any shade, though - it's always looked kind of cheap to me.

I like mint on black/rosewood, great if you like a vintage-y vibe.
For tort, it's been said roughly 28,765 times before, but Pickguardian has the nicest, closest-to-vintage tort you'll find.

Man, that does look hot. It's surprising what just a subtle change will do for the overall looks...swap white with mint or parchment and it gives it instant mojo.

Just for comparison's sake, here's the same bass with a white guard. It looks MUCH better with the mint, IMHO. It's a '62, so it just looked wrong with the white...

(btw, it doesn't look quite that green in person. My photo "skills" need a LOT of work)

    How about no pickguard?

His bass is probably routed out below the pickgaurd where he would need one. I think?

Not routed out below the guard. It's a MIA Highway-1 (the newer ones with BAII).

here is my black MIM jazz with an aftermarket tort pg. i'd rather have a fender pg for the sake of keeping it all fender, but i didnt want to spend that much more (money i dont have) on something that looked the same. the fit wasnt superb, but close enough for me to make some small modifications for a proper fit.

please forgive me for staring at my fretboard, i'm still quite new to the bass world

  18. I'm gunna do a Custom Artwork Scratch plate for my new Fender Jazz.
regularly it would have the white plate also but i wanted something more personal than some drab single colour or tort pattern.
