  1. Ok....so you have 5...10...15...40....60 basses ! That's all well & good , but you have your " GO TOO " basses that never fail you, feel like Pure Butta Baby, and sound like Rolling Thunder from the Heavens above !
Show your 3 favorites that are always arms reach away from you at any gig or rehearsal.............

by adhering strictly to the OP's conditions for top 3:

"basses that never fail you, feel like Pure Butta Baby, and sound like Rolling Thunder from the Heavens above !Show your 3 favorites that are always arms reach away from you at any gig or rehearsal............."

I never bring 3 to a gig

but for rehersal, my top 3 are these, as they are always there when the others are upstairs in the guitar room:

the red one sounds/sustains the best but is the heaviest NT, the c.a.r one is the red ones lighter clone BO but lacks the 18v conversion and sounds different, and the black p-bass has an emg with a maple neck that sounds different from the other 2.

for the rock that I do they cover quit a few of the tonal qualities.

For many years this was my goto bass. A 1968 4001 fireglo. But it got sold.
    Rimg1312.

Then for a while this was my goto bass. This one also got sold.

Then for a while this was my goto bass. Also sold.

And for a while this was my goto bass. Also sold.
    Bass5-0027.

For a short time this was my favorite.
    Bass5-0020.

As of right now my top 3 would be.
    bass5%20060.
    jag0003.
    mb5%20002.

But my choices for top 3 keep changing.

These here are also good goto basses.

Baird6869 RIP Gord Downey. A True Canadian Icon.

I flip flop like crazy between basses, but currently (and for a while now) these are my favorites....

An AMAZING (but barely original) 1973 Jazz... Geddy , eat your heart out!

And a bass I will likely never sell... just a beautifully crafted Roscoe SKB-3005

Oh man, those Bordwells up there are nice...! I've wanted to try one of his basses for a looong time now, they look amazing!

For my part, it's no surprise that my favorite 3 are those that constitute my Kingwood Trio:
