I was just checking out a thread in Basses where a TB'er recognized another TB'er's bass in a bogus auction. It got me thinking that this is an unexpected advantage to showing your bass online, the bass wasn't actually stolen, just it's image, but someone recognized it!!
It got me wondering, if TB could have a show your bass "thread" that could support the documentation and searchablilty of serial numbers along with a small thumbnail could that be helpfull as well?? It would make a stolen bass more difficult to sell, it would also be interesting to track the history of instruments over time.
If the archival and recovery(via a simple search of the thread) of serial# information is expensive to support then I would recommend making it available to supporting members only or even charging a "per bass" registration fee to cover costs.
I know that this opening several cans-o-worms but what do you folks think??
