That's pretty much THE bass in my opinion as far as looks. I've seen them with tort guards but not black.
i just saw one on here yesterday while doing a search. the only one i've ever seen. i was thinking about replacing the neck on my burst jazz with maple blocked neck. if i find it again i'll link it.
One of the guys in the Geddy Lee Club thread had replaced the black body on his with a sunburst. You might want to look there.
I have one, but it isn't an original Fender. The body is from a mid-90's MIM and the neck is an AllParts neck. The closest I have seen is Marcus Miller in sunburst, which I believe is an option. Sadly I do not have any pictures of my bass. It is in the shop right now getting a Badass II bridge and some other refinements put on it. I will post some once I get them.
here's the one i saw. it doesn't have a black pickguard though. it is however for sale. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=387528
Fender made the American Vintage '75 Jazz in Sunburst (and in Black) in/until 1999. It's only available in Natural now... http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0190302821 too bad, maybe you can still find one somewhere... I have one in black/maple!
sorrowfox, did you sand the logo off of your essex headstock? if you were throwing on a custom waterslide, i thought it was far better to use the finest grade of steel wool?
