A post casually mentioned the Shuker artist bass. Kind of a UK Rob Allen. The basses offer an option of a Schertler underbridge condenser microphone (vs. piezo)--that sounds like it might be real cool. At 900-1000 pounds sterling could they bordering on the reasonable...even with a lousy conversion they're still on this side of attainable. Anybody got one?
This guy who lives a couple of streets away from me has one. Might be worth looking into, but they're rare in the UK, so in the US they must be pretty damn hard to come by.
I'm about the only person I know of in the US who has one, though there surely must be others. I have the ABG Jon used to make (but no longer does), and I have two of his solidbodies (identical matched fretted/fretless pair). I haven't played that particular Rob Allen-like model, but in general, I have nothing but good to say about the quality of Jon's work, and about the experience of working with him. If the Artist is made to the standard of the basses I own, I think it would be great. Cool guy, cool basses.
