Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by ZenBass, Aug 19, 2004.

  1. Jon Shuker has just Emailed me a pic of a Top that will be goin on my Bass.

I asked for Burr Maple but he simply doesnt have a large enough piece for a full front...

I can either wait or have a choice of a few others..

    He sent me this

Its called Madrone which i have never heard off.. a google search didnt bring back much Instrument info.. can anyone shed any light.. or have pictures of it being used?..

Also he said he has some Cooked Maple??....

anyhelp would be greatly appreciated :)...
  2. As I understand its similar in tone to mahogany. Its pretty. Not ridiculous, I've seen it on some of Rob Green's basses (Status). Just my opinion...I'd put it in the same esthetical class as a maple quilt.
  3. Looks pretty damn nice to me. It's like maple, but the colour of bubinga.

I like it, especially the left side. It looks "veiny".

It looks like fried dough.. I want some.
  6. Yeah....its a pretty nice piece of wood...but i dunno if its what I am looking for...

I really wanted Burl Maple....tight grain pattern but with lovely variations in colour....

I was goin to go for Bimble Box but i missed out... bugger..!!!

Amboyna is also another choice :)...

Its to complement a flamed maple core and a Imbuya Burl Back.!!!

That looks nice. I'm not sure what it's tonal/structural properties are but madrone (sometimes spelled as pronounced, "madrona") grows around here. It's a pretty interesting hardwood tree - instead of shedding its leaves in winter, it sheds its bark! and the wood has a pinkish to blood-red color underneath.
