I was wondering if anyone has any idea what Gallup was using for the song "Open" on the Bestival Live CD. I am digging the growling sound, and I don't know where he got it. Is he picking rather than fingering? Is there anyway to find out if he had any effects running, or what axe he was playing?

    thanks,

Love the tone of The Cure. I'd assume something high output. Maybe an active bass?

I've only ever seen him with a pick.
He uses lots of effects; chorus, flanger, etc.
He has a new Schecter signature model.

  4. ...and I think that's the one you can see in the clip:

Signature Schecter bass, passive pickups IIRC, always plays with a pick, roundwounds (his last interview in 2004 said they were RotoSounds), Ampeg SVT and a few Boss pedals. CE-5, BF-2, DD-3 and a ODB-3. Open sounds like only chorus but I don't have my iPod with me so I'm going off memory and the dozens of times I've listened to the Bestival album.
