Hopefully the more technically proficient of you are willing to help out a doofus like me.

I have a Peavey Mark IV which explicitly says it may be used with 2, 4 or 8 ohm speakers. There are two outputs on the back

I have an old Ampeg cab with two speaker connections, one for a 8 ohm 8" and one for a 4 ohm 15"

What is the danger, if any, of running the two speakers, 8 ohm and 4 ohm, on the two Peavey outputs?

Thanks and have a great holiday.

  2. The 15" will get about 30% more power going to it cause its a smaller load(lol had too). Together it will drop the ohmage down to 2.6 which your head should work with

That might indicate it's intended for bi-amping.

Blowing the eight if it's a bi-amp configured cab.

  4. Can we at least use the correct term: impedance. There is no such word as ohmage!

Ah, but there is such a word as "homage."

there is another word for OHMAGE , it's called 'resistance'

  7. Look up the difference between resistance and impedance.

The owner of a local shop was showing me a new device that auto changes all cabinets to 8 ohm, so if you plug in a 4 ohm and 8 ohm cabinet it makes the overall impedance 8 ohms.

Thanks guys. The cab is apparently set up for bi-amping but I am unsure specifically what that means. It's a cab that went with an Ampeg B3-158 combo, the amp having been blown and removed. The owner's manual says the amp had two power sources, 50 watts for the 8 and 100 for the 15. The amp owner's manual says the amp had an adjustable crossover, leadng to the inference that the cabinet has no crossover. This would make sense based on there being two separate connections from the cab, one for each speaker.

I give ho(ohm)mage to willingness to give your comments, and I feel no impedance (or resistance) to saying so.

Yep. If you look right over the young lady with questionable footwear's head you can see not one but TWO accuswitches (tm). Its the proto for their new cab...it can be switched between 8,4 and now 2 ohms!

Repeat after me: Lions and Tigers and Bears, OHMAGE!

With that look, I think someone's already applied the bargepole.

Your options are to use it with a bi-amp head w/internal adjustable crossover or add a passive crossover to the cab.
