I have a mutt that I built with a single coil jazz pickup. It sounds great except when I'm not playing. Single coil hum. I was wondering if I installed another single coil pickup and reversed the wiring>positive to negative and negative to positive, would this be hum canceling? TIA

Not sure but I was reading on the Duncan site the other day and they have a bassline P pup that has reversing polarity but I think it also had reverse winding to create hum canceling.

  3. If you're happy with the sound as is, but are just annoyed by the hum when not playing, you might be happier just turning down the volume. I'm pretty sure even a dummy coil is going to change the sound of the existing pickup. Sort of like having a Jazz bass, running the neck pickup alone and then just *barely* turning on the bridge pickup.
