Disclaimer: not an actual club. I don't want to hand out any damn numbers or anything ... I started playing bass in '87. Admittedly there are periods of on-and-off in there, but over that time, I have owned a total of nine bases. Yep, a single-digit number! So, how many of you can say the same? Who has owned fewer than ten bases in their lives so far? You have to say how long you've been playing too: it's far less impressive if you own nine bases, but you started playing only last week!
Recently bought #5 and planning to sell #3. Bought #1 in 1996 when I decided to learn bass. I'll have two 4s and two 5s...all I need for lots of gigging. Couldn't be happier.
Over my nearly 60 years of playing I'm well out of single digits of basses owned but I do have a bass made by a large manufacturer with a single digit serial number. I still haven't found the perfect bass for me (well I've found many I thought were perfect but eventually didn't make the cut) but I think I'm getting closer with a custom shaped slab body I built to go with my favorite Squier Jaguar SS neck.
I believe I fit the criteria! Started playing in 1989 and have purchased 9 basses (that I remember ). My current main players are #4 and #8. I’ve borrowed others for a few months here and there.
Hmm, I going to need to consider whether basses bought during post-gig drunken blackouts count of not ...
I’m 43 and have been playing for 31 years (wow.. I should be a lot better than I am lol). I have owned many basses in my life from modern to vintage. At this point in my life I know what I like. I currently own just 4 basses. 3 Precision basses ( 1972, 1963, 1971), and 1 new USA made Spector NS2. I use all of them frequently. I don’t really have an urge to buy anything else, at least not today lol. Cheers!
I've had a total of 8 basses in my life, never have owned more than 2 at a time. I got my first bass in 1989 and my most recent one in 2019.
I’ve bought and sold well into the double digits over the last almost 30 years of playing. That being said, the most I’ve owned at a single time is 7. Usually no more than 4 or 5. So I hardly qualify for your question, but I like to lie to myself so please indulge me
I've had seven, three of which I still own. Maybe 6 and a half, depending on how you reckon it. 1) Squier Bronco bass my brother and I bought together in '98, when I was 14 and he was 10. 2) Peavey Foundation I got after we sold the Bronco for our own basses, because I wanted a full scale and I hated having to share with my dopey kid brother. 3) Ibanez SR800 my brother bought at the same time, which I now own. 4) Fender Precision Bass Special "Deluxe Edition", i.e. one of the Guitar Center exclusive PJ basses. I traded in my Peavey for not much money towards it, but now I wish I'd kept both. I've still got the Fender and love it. I've made a few changes to it, Badass II bridge, new pickguard, thumbrest. 5) Regal acoustic bass that was never loud enough and was uncomfortable to play. Sold this one years ago, but never should have bought it in the first place. 6) Some inexpensive Yamaha, I think? (probably an entry level RBX) I bought in Japan when doing a year abroad there, sold it when I left as it would have been a pain to bring home. 7) Yamaha BB735 I picked up about a year ago, now my main bass. 3, 4, and 7 are still in my possession. The Fender is like an old friend, it was my only bass for years (not counting the crappy acoustic and the first Yamaha) so I'll never get rid of it. The Ibanez was my brothers, so likewise that's forever in my collection. The Yamaha BB735 is now my #1.
I had 3 when I was a teenager. One was an Aria short scale, one was possibly a washburn and haven't a clue what the other was. Fast forward 20 odd years and I bought myself a squier jazz which got upgraded to a Fender Precision and has since been supplemented by a MIJ Jazz special and an Ibanez EHB
Started playing in ‘77 and have owned 5 basses. …7 if you count the really big ones you don’t plug in.
