Does anyone know of a single space, rackmountable clean boost that won't affect the tone of the signal it is boosting?
hmm... interesting question! but i say just put a clean boost pedal like a zvex SHO in your amp's effects loop set to serial mode. should work like a charm.
There are a handful of options that come to mind. 1. Ashly SC-40 preamp. This is the instrument pre, not the bass pre. Well built, lots of gain and low noise. Really handy in studio or on stage for either bass or acoustic guitar. As a bonus, it has nice eq. Out of production now, worth hunting for used. 1 ru form factor. 2. Mackie 402 mixer. Lots of gain, relatively low noise, easy to find. Little mixer form factor. 3. Radio Design Labs STA-1. High quality, bombproof. Commonly used in radio and TV. Will need a power supply. Sold by firms like Fullcompass, Broadcasters Store, B&H. About the size of an Altoids tin.
