Singlecut recommendations

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by ole Jason, Sep 13, 2017.

  1. When I say singlecut I mean like a Fodera, not a Les Paul.

    What I'm looking for:

    - 34" scale 5-string
    - Aguilar or Nordstrand pickups, preferably passive but I'm open to active if necessary
    - Wenge neck highly preferred but I can deal with other options
    - Ebony board is a must, I know some builders have moved away from using it
    - Budget is pretty open but probably no more than $4k
    - No waiting in excess of a year
    - Used is preferable if the specs are right

    What I'm considering:

    - Maruszczyk Sputnik: Other than the wenge neck this seems to tick all the boxes and the wait time is very reasonable.

    - Warwick Thumb SC: I've played Warwick basses for years so these naturally appeal to me. Unfortunately I'd need to go used and I've never seen a used SC for sale.

    - Bordwell Dola: I love everything about the Dola but the wait time has grown to almost 1.5 years. That is just too long for me but I'm glad to see Cliff so busy.

    - Padalka Ennea: Wild aesthetics but they look amazing. Definitely going to look into these a little more.

    - Elrick SC: Downside is I'd need to go used and finding a used model without Bartolinis is difficult. Wouldn't be that big of a deal to pull the pickups. I'm always on the lookout for something with the right specs.

What else is out there? What would you recommend?

Roger's making some nice single-cuts now. Especially cool with the '60s/'70s pickup switch. Of course, the Fodera Imperial's nice, but it ain't $4K.

  3. The R Bass single cut does look nice. I'll email him, the site is a little hard to navigate. And yeah a Fodera with the specs I want would be north of $10k. I just can't really justify that, wish I could! Thanks

For new, Martin Keith all day. Wenge and ebony wouldn't be a problem. My sixer has a mostly wenge neck and an ebony board. My koa fretless also has an ebony board.
