I saw an ad today. Guitar Center is now carrying Sire. What are your thoughts? I'm excited to be able to handle them. I've been wanting one for a couple years but haven't played one so I haven't ordered one. Now I may just buy one.
Seems to be just the pricier models (no V3 or M2 yet), maybe that'll change though. In any case, yeah, this will be good for anyone waiting to try before buying for sure.
Available online only or actually in stores? G&L basses have been available for years but when's the last time you saw a new one hanging up? My GC in Cherry Hill has between 90 and 100 basses, 93 right now, but I've only found used G&Ls in the past. They did have a used V7 about half a year ago, but it didn't really do anything for me...the neck was a bit chunky. I'll keep an eye on them, of course...same for the store in Langhorne, Plymouth Meeting and Totowa.
Anybody else wonder if the big box stores like GC will eventually get the big builders to build specific GC models and dumb down the quality like Home Depot does? HD buy truckloads; they buy train car loads and have the buying power to have identical items at lower price points like Moen faucets, lawn mowers, etc.
Awesome, assuming they’ll show up in stores. It does me no good if I can’t try it. Every guitar center I go into just has the same low end fender, Ibanez, Yamaha, SBMM, and schectors.
It's of no use to Sire if the basses aren't actually out in the stores, that's the whole point of the deal. I would bet the contract stipulates general retail availability. I'll be checking my local GC and asking (only reason I've had to even go in there in years).
Interesting. I have always wanted to try one. I'm not really in the market for a jazz bass anymore. The M7 might be worth checking out. I would rather they upgrade their store stock with some fancier basses, but I guess boring and basic is their thing these days.
I know next to nothing about Sire, but does Marcus Miller own the company? His name is on every bass they have listed for sale. Seems odd that all of their models would be artist signature editions.
Aside from the Fender-ish aesthetic, these are not really much like Squier basses. I don't want to start a flame war with the Squier faithful but I think these basses are more desirable... subjectively speaking.
Squier has more different models/pup configurations that MIM. I'm not comparing Squiers and Sires, other than the fact that the bottom Sires and Squiers are more in the same price range. Offering the better Sires would give something in that price range with more options than the MIMS.
Seems the weight has gone up too. A while ago I passed on a V3 ser 1 that was under 8 1/2 lbs. Now everything seems to be over 9 pounds. 8 1/4 is about my cut off point.
