Had no trouble with frets or nut from the two basses P7 and V5 I ordered from Sweetwater. They have been great! Just minor intonation tweek. I did lower the action with saddle height adjustments to my liking. They were decent, just like it a little lower.

I gave mine a pretty big overhaul. Sire pleks the frets I'm pretty sure, and with a plekked neck you can pretty much dial out all of the relief in the neck and still have a little to no buzz. I put 45-105 fat beams, which are heavier than the stock strings. So I adjusted the relief day one, and had to do minor tweaks on day 2 and 3 after changing the strings before it was completely stable.

I lowered the saddles quite a bit, had to make some decent adjustments to intonation, and actually had to lower the pickups ever so slightly to accommodate for the lower string height. other than my buzzy 15th fret, setup is now as good as on my $4k bass, action, intonation, really spot on.

Hi! I'm looking for a direct replacement bone nut for a Marcus Miller V3-4. Mine has a bad cut that produce a big buzz in the first fret all along the four strings and tweaking the neck and saddles makes nothing to solve the problem. Only with a high action and flatwounds the issue is less obvious.

I have found those two types:

Type 1) 38 mm x 3.5 mm x 6 mm (1.5 x 0.14 x 0.24 INCHES)
Type 2) 38 mm x 3.5 mm x 4,5 mm (1.5 x 0.14 x 0,177 INCHES)

According Sire website width is 38mm, but not idea at all what would be the factory length and height so it's not easy measure this:

P7 or P8?

I played two P7s 5s yesterday at my local GC. Such a great neck and sound. Loved the flexibility of the pre and the neck was to die for. Any upgrades to the P8 that are worth the extra $? I know the differences. I guess I'm asking if the Fender-style bridge, different pickups, swamp ash body, and roasted maple neck are worth the investment. I would assume the neck feel and tone would be pretty close. But if not let me know.

My only hesitance is the weight. Well over 10 lbs is a bit heavy for me. Has anyone tried to lighten the load with lightweight tuners and a lighter bridge? It was definitely neck heavy. But I really liked playing the neck and it sounded great.

Several have put Gotoh GB528 Nickel Tuners including myself. Their only slight issue (at least for me) is you only use the lower two screws and the top two holes show but not as big a deal to me as it first was. Just don't make the mistake I did and order X-Chrome thinking they are shinier than Nickel because of my experience with Hipshot Nickel tuners being more yellow. I love my P7 that came stock at 9lbs. 6oz. from Sweetwater. Dropped the weight to 9lbs. 2 oz.

That's the rub! Loved the neck! But did I love it enough to wear a double sling strap, ehhh? If I had a sit down gig, it would have left with me.

I wonder if you got a unicorn. Do you have an idea of its weight before the tuner swap? The average weight of the P7 and P8 5 strings on the Sire website says, 4.6 kg or 10.1 lbs (FAQ). If I could lose enough to get to your weight that's encouraging. On the P8 I could go with an aluminum Hipshot bridge as well.

Correct. Changing the tuners completely solved the neck dive. I believe Sweetwater shows the bass weight. Wood is natural, so it varies. Mine is swamp ash. Hope you can find one that isn't a boat anchor. With my Levi strap, it is very comfortable. I named it Dowsky.

Yeah, might just need to wait and see what comes in. Really no rush, except this GAS is starting.

I bought mine from Thomann. It cost $75 less and arrived in 3 days. I don't know how they do it.

Put the Gotoh 528's on mine and goodbye neck dive. Extra holes do not bother me. Put hipshot on all my EB's and I think I like the Gotoh better.

Funny you say that, I was planning on buying through them. They look to have a bunch in stock. Wonder if they'd weigh one for me? The Weight might push me to the P8, haven't found an Ash P7 5ver on Sweetwater or Thomann (assuming Ash would be lighter, but not always).

Hi, you could check the Sadowsky / Warwick "Just a nut" but I don't know the measurements, but it is adjustable thanks to 2 screws.
