How much do these Sire 2nd generation V7 4-strings weigh? I'm an Ibanez SR player and am debating between buying a new V7 in alder or a used SR Prestige bass - both about the same price. My current SR weighs in at 9 lbs.
There’s a big difference in weight. I had one that was 8lb 13oz. Just bought another that is 9lb 9oz. I asked the guy in the shop (mail order) to weigh all his Sires and the heaviest (same model) was 10lbs 8oz. You really need to get them weighed before you buy. Fabulous basses though.
Pretty sure that the 2nd gen models have been more consistent, and weighing lighter than the 1st gen. I once owned a 1st gen V7 4 that weighed 10.4 pounds. The 2nd gen have been more in the 9 pound range, and balance very well on a strap. I am also very sensitive to basses in the 10 pound and over range. I have owned about 6 Sire basses, and currently own a V10 5, and P7 5 1st gen that both weigh about 9.2 pounds each.
The heavier V7s are mostly the older ones from the first 2 years or so. Sire started implementing body wood weight screening even back a couple of years ago with the later Gen 1 years. Now with the Gen 2, I assume they're continuing the weight screening, maybe they're going even lighter now, I don't know.
Well my new V10 is of course 2nd gen, but also Roasted neck and special body woods. It is quite comfortable, but not sure how the V3 basses compare with their Mahogany bodies.
The Sire V7 Gen 2 basses I asked the shop to weigh were between 9.7 and 10.5 pounds. When I bought my first VV7 Gen 2 they were 9 to 10.5 pounds. I had a Gen 1 that was just under 9 pounds. I also had a Gen 1 that was early 10 pounds. I don’t think Sire have sorted out the weight screening process.
