Six string, semi-headless

Discussion in 'Luthier's Corner' started by Jisch, Aug 17, 2017.

  1. I've got some other stuff to build around the house, but I'm percolating ideas for my next build. I bought a headless tuning system like I used for the stubby that was going to go on the A/E I'm finishing now, but then I figured out that the neck wouldn't support it).

I'm thinking of doing a six string bass using that for the middle four strings and use regular tuners on the headstock for the other two. Probably bolt on fretted.

Anyone ever seen something like this? Tell me why it's a stupid idea.

It might look weird, or interesting, but I can't see any reason it wouldn't work? You would have to be creative in finding the bridge string anchor points that are equidistant for string spacing, but otherwise, why not?

Generally speaking though, you crazy man... :D
