Do any of you guys skateboard? I've skated since I was 10. I'm too old and broken to do tricks anymore ( my right knee is busted up bad and had surgery on it 4 years ago) but I still go and bomb some medium size hills.

I always get "angry mom" looks from my wife when she sees me going as fast as cars.

I'm wayyyy more careful since I have kids now.

I'm just so happy I can go cruising FINALLY!!!
(Snow sux bug time up here)
I needed this to get my mind of all this $hizzle.

    Stay safe everyone. Tuff times.

    :)

My daughter will be 9 in July and wants a skateboard for her birthday. I haven’t skated since the late eighties/ early nineties. I’m going to build both of us boards.

    here’s my new deck.

I skated back in the ‘80s. There are times when I miss it and I still think like a skateboarder when I look at skatable terrain/obstacles/objects (certain curbs and benches, banks, walls, etc.). Some of the best times of my life involved skateboarding but I don’t see myself getting back into it now. Still have all my issues of Thrasher and Transworld. :)

Size of the wheels and hight of the risers??
Indy trucks for life my friend!!!!

Don't go to hard on those Oj super juice wheels. I've completely destroyed 2 sets of those.

One wheel exploded on me going fast down a hill when I went over a manhole cover. Luckily I put my weight on the tail and it was a rear wheel.

The 2nd set tore up when I shredded a little turning a sharp corner.

  7. Skateboarding was a huge part of my life up until broken ankles and eventually a broken tailbone put a stop to that. I will push around and do some light duty tricks now and it's still a blast.

I can't imagine how different my life would have been If I never skated.

    Have you seen him?

    60mm wheels. 1/4” risers.

I don’t plan on going hard. My days of invincibility are over.

    60mm and 1/4 are perfect.
Unless you ride very loose trucks.
Even then you can wax the board to prevent nasty wheel bite.

I can't imagine growing up without skateboarding. It's a way of life imo.

  11. A friend of mine got me a psycho stick deck recently and I set it up oldschool. It was my first real board when I started. It's fun but after I get warmed up I wish it had more nose.

My dad was always fantastic about driving me to different skate spots, especially when we’d be travelling. One of my greatest thrills was when my dad and I were stopped over in Hawaii and he took me to Wallows (this was probably about a year after The Search For Animal Chin came out).

I have an absolute fear of small nose or flat nose boards. I feel like I'm going to dive into the pavement head first on those.

Skateboarding always seemed to attract the more creative and individualistic types. A lot of the skaters I knew in the ‘80s were also into, for example, drawing and music in a way that the non-skater kids I knew weren’t.

I had the exact opposite. I remember taking the bus home when I broke my foot doing a nose grind on a bank the wasn't waxed enough.

    That sucked big time.

Where I was, skating and music where very connected. One came with the other.
It was an outkast thing back then. Before all those x game things.

Yeah, I got around a lot by bus and metro as well (not to mention by skateboard). I was lucky in that I was what would now be termed a “free-range” kid. I was always out skating, either alone or with friends - and most of my skate buddies were several years older than me. During the summer it wasn’t unusual for me to leave in the morning and come back home after dark. I was also lucky to never get hurt skateboarding (though I was never much of a dare-devil).

Same here. I would leave around noon and come back after midnight.
Spending the day skating and.....other stuff stupid kids do. ;)

I got busted up, but nothing too serious. Lots of sprains, bruises scars. Broke a couple bones but nothing insane.

Worst was cracked ribs....took forever to heal.

I just remembered that I sprained my ankle pretty badly once and that I had to take a bit of time off from skating as a result. Lots of road rash but thankfully no broken bones. But, again, I wasn’t doing a lot of the crazier stuff that some people were. And now it’s just insane (as with pretty much every other “action sport”). Great times. I can’t imagine having a better passion to indulge in at that age.
