I just had the bass set up by a top tech here in Dallas and have a new set of D'Addario nickels on them. It slams - really plays itself! Comes in a Pro Tec hard/soft case - the original case Pete put it in.

Trades (I'm all about 35" scale and 18mm string spacing):
    • Elrick New Jazz Standard 5
    • Mike Lull M5
    • Roscoe Century 5's (ideally with J pickups)
    • MTD 535-24
    • Zon 519 (with truss rod)
    • ?

    A little history:
Pete Skjold used to work about 5 miles from my house when he first started building basses just north of Dallas. I would often come over to oogle and play his basses and ask questions. I saw his business grow from a couple of very early "OK" basses to the exquisite instruments they are today. This bass is from the time Pete first found his craft and his sound. He locked in on his "magic" build dimensions, and partnered with Sheldon Dingwall and John East to create an amazing electronics combination with a superior set of voices for bass guitar. You won't be disappointed.

I'm happy to answer questions. Thanks for looking!

The tone signature on this bass is smooth but with some serious snap. And while you can get a thousand different tones off of it, this is not a bass for metal or punk. For blues, jazz, funk, solo, tap, oldies, country, Motown, studio, THIS is the bass to have!

This pic is a little grainy but you can see the whole bass in the actual case.

LOL not THAT old! It’s about 10 years old, but there’s not a mark on it! The first owner gets the credit. He knew he had s special bass

when you say '92 5 string, I assume that means it was made in 1992, which makes it about 25-26 years old.

    what does '92 actually mean?

That is the model name that Pete gave it. Not exactly sure why - I think that’s the year he decided to build instruments or something...

The original Skjold bass was the Offset, which he designed in 1992. He redesigned the body style (that you would see David Dyson playing now) that is now called the offset. I believe this bass is the updated body style.

Here is David playing his current bass, which sounds absolutely incredible. I think you're right, the body looks about the same other than the finish and the electronics arrangement:

That's actually a new body style called the Griffin. That's the first one, its basically another update to the Offset.

Ahh, thanks for the correction - yes, now I see that the top (bass? left?) side of the body is curved on the Griffin instead of angled into a "V" on the OP's. I guess I had better start playing "Spot the Difference" with my kids some more!

The tone is similar. The difference being that David has a maple fingerboard and mine is cocobolo. His has more top end. Mine definitely has some serious snap (if needed from the preamp) but the cocoboolo kind of smooths out the overall signature.

@lowendmafia, do you know if the preamp in Dave's Griffin is the East preamp that Pete has used all along, or is there something different in there?
