    I need some help, I just bought a Crate bfx-100 and I cant get that slap bass sound out of it. Is it just the amp or am I not doing something right?? Another thing is that I can barely hear the effects and when i play above half of its volume knob capacity, the limit light flashes and I get a distortiony sound.

    If you can help with any of these things, it would be very helpful.
    thanks.

    ...but since you just bought it, you can try taking back the amp and getting something better & louder. (hint: not crate)

    The only other amp in my $400 price range was a SWR-15, and the guy said that they are basically the same except the crate had built in effects.

    Hmmm. Well, I've tried both and the SWR had much better tone and I believe it was also louder (better speaker). The SWR is also much more portable (only 50 lbs., with 2 big handles) and it has a tweeter, which would definitely help for slap.

    The Crate BFX-100 doesn't have anything going for it besides the effects, IMO (which I didn't really care for.) The sales guy was probably just trying to sell off the Crates. I highly recommend you trade in for the SWR.

    Crate = bad

    SWR = good

    Carvin PB200 is just in your price range, and I believe its a lot better than the Crate.

    Of course the SWR will BLOW away the Crate.

  6. If at all possible, work on getitng that SWR. GO back to the store and see what they say. The SWR is the better amp.
