slapping and tapping question!!!

Discussion in 'Technique [BG]' started by Every1TookMyName, May 28, 2001.

  1. 1. Whenever slapping, should you be attacking the strings with an up and down motion with your hand or left and right?

    2. Does higher action make for better slapping and tapping?

Sorry for the stupid questions, but I'm new at this..

    1. I'm not sure I completely understand the question but here goes it. When you're slapping keep your wrist locked, all of the motion should be comming from rotating your forearm back and forth. Try and keep your forearm loose and your wrist locked tight.

    2. Generally slapping and tapping is easier played on a bass with low action.

That's how I understand it anyway, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
  3. hey man dont get all caught up in how to do things. just do it the way it feels comfortible. as long aws you are getting the desired sound it dosent really matter. low action is what i use for my slapping. the logic behind it is that the string has less far to travel to hit the bass. a nice new set of roundwound strings also helps ton greatly when slaping :0).
