I heard that the slapping technique is not play only on the electric bass
what is slapping on double bass?
i heard that milt hinton do it
  2. In the order you posed them:
Yes - but dbers got there first - we now hear they're doing it on electric bass :).
It's pulling the strings away from the fingerboard so hard it slaps back and gainst the fingerboard.
Milt Hinton was a great exponent of this technique which nowadays is largely confined to bluegrass and rockers who will all pile in with a bunch of links to people like Lee Rocker.

There are some good threads about slapping and Milt Hinton around here somewhere.

Check out the Branford Marsalis CD "Trio Jeepy" for some great examples of Milt's slap technique. He was a monster at it.
