Slides?!?

  1. is it true you can use a slide on a bass?
    my brother uses one on his guitar.
    if so what does it sound like and how is it used?

  5. It sounds like crap.. but hey, have you ever played an electric bass with a bow? It sounds REALLY DEEP and HUGE.

    I play the intro to one of my band's songs with a slide, mostly for a special effect. I've been trying to utilize it a little more in a melodic context, and its definately a different approach to a bassline.

    Mark Sandman of Morphine played slide bass, and I think he sounded great.

    I've found that glass slides are easier to get a good tone out of. Less extraneous noise and overtones.
