  1. is it true you can use a slide on a bass?
my brother uses one on his guitar.
if so what does it sound like and how is it used?

I play the intro to one of my band's songs with a slide, mostly for a special effect. I've been trying to utilize it a little more in a melodic context, and its definately a different approach to a bassline.

Mark Sandman of Morphine played slide bass, and I think he sounded great.

I've found that glass slides are easier to get a good tone out of. Less extraneous noise and overtones.
