    I was surfing Google trying to find information on the "budget" box cellos and basses marketed to poorer school systems by Scherl and Roth decades ago, and blundered into this:

    Trench Cello - Royal Academy of Music

    WWI has long been an interest of mine, especially the British "trench poets"; but some- thing like this I would never have imagined . . .

    Google turned up a pic of one that was fashioned from an oil can. Amazing!
