I have an older swr sm-400 and was wondering how i could use the mono jack, which has to screw on poles, to hook up a cab that excepts speakon and regular guitar plugs (forgot the name). Thank you

Sounds like a simple cable, with banana plug on one end and 1/4" or speakon on the other. This would be used for bridge mode with that amp.

that is exactly it. get a bannana to 1/4 inch cable and you will be in bridged mode.

    ...forgot to mention

    1) you can make your own cable easily if you can solder a bit. Finding one of these might not be too easy, depending on where you live (see www.partsexpress.com)

    2) be sure to flip the switch on the back of your amp from stereo to bridge
