I am about to acquire a Bassman 70 in a gear trade that I will be using for a small grab and go low volume bass rig. I would like to see if there are any good small 4ohm cabs out there in the market (1x12, 1x15, 2x10) that would match up well with this head?
I don't want to spend more than $500. I have had LDS build me a couple cabs... I guess I should see what he can do. Matching grill cloth and width would be nice, as would some NEO speaker(s).
It will want a 4 ohm load. I don't think anyone ever made a cab to fit the width of a Bassman head. Seems odd, since there are only about jillion of them out there. If you plan to gig it, even at coffee shop levels, you will want sensitive speakers. Maybe a ported 212 using Deltalite 2512s to keep it light? You may find that you like the normal channel more than the bass channel. If you replace the filter caps, go higher value. That can make it a little more solid sounding, giving the illusion of more power.
How about a new 4-ohm Avatar 210 w/Faital neo 10PR300s? $444 shipped? http://www.avatarspeakers.com/B210 NEO.htm Or a new 8-ohm Avatar 210 w/Eminence Basslites? $300 shipped. http://avatarspeakers.com/home/product/b210special/ If you go for a build, then a 115 with a 15PR400 (4-ohm) is a fine choice. No tweet needed. Not the Faital, & an 8-ohm 115, but $175 shipped is nothing to sneeze at for a minty box. http://www.talkbass.com/threads/carvin-115mb-bass-cab-175-00-shipped.1122381/ Or this 8-ohm Avatar 12/6/1? http://www.talkbass.com/threads/fs-avatar-sb112-nearful-cab-12-6-1.1112367/#post-16704361 What's available on your nearest CL?
